We have set up a home here in Manzanillo for young men under 18 who are suffering from drug and or alcohol addiction as there is no provision in our state for those under 18 years old for residential rehabilitation. Mexican Law now states that this age group cannot be accommodated with adults. However figures show that there is a significant and growing problem with drug and alcohol use among young people here, leading to: dropping out of education; a life of crime; homelessness and sometimes death .
We have been blessed with a beautiful house which we have as a home with a wonderful couple, Juan Carlos and Juni who are house parents and Carmen is the rehab worker. These three create an amazing family environment providing a safe and loving place for drug rehabilitation. We use The Celebrate Recovery 12 Step Program. Education is a vital part of the process and lots of effort goes into enabling the boys to catch up the missed years from school.
Our aim is for these boys to leave Casa de Esperanza drug free with Hope, Education and a Future. We do not put a time limit on this process and each young man will have an individualized program. It could take one to several years for them to leave the house and go on to their next stage.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
